Subject: hackneyed shit
okay the sir bit is old. I realize these comments may be said in jest. However, there comes a time when frequent joking or witicism about someone's occupation results in degradation rather than humor.
I find it interesting that in almost all instances...I am never the one to bring up the subject of what I do. Yet, brash remarks about the line of work in question always seem to be spoken by all too many individuals that I would think would have enough decency to respect the vocation of others. There is a thin line between humor and insult and I hope that in the future, we can avoid these situations.
well, folks.. what can i say that can't be said by anyone with a buzz-cut and muscles? i mean.. you know?! yes, that's right, folks. you mess with the bull you might get the horns, right? perhaps this is the chance i was looking for?? i don't know.
subject: now, a little shaken.
alright, fair enough. you're absolutely right, i apologize. i read you loud and clearly. i've obviously been insensitive and thoughtless and overstepped the bounds of our acquaintanship. i mis-spoke but i assure you that i had no intention what-so-ever of offending you, your chosen and current occupation, or the men and ideas you stand for. so, certain words and ideas are off-limits and not up for discussion, then, and i can handle that well enough. from now on, no more "hackneyed" wise-cracks and no more attempts --at least on my part-- to open up conversations either in person or via email correspondence that touch on anything but the most surface chit-chat, if that.
no hanging details left on the sill.
[this last part (below) is just an appended signature quote deal that i kept on here because i'm getting into borges. just as an assignment to myself.. oh and i also really like the word FOMENT.. that's got to be what, at least 25 cents]
--"dictatorships foment subservience, dictatorships foment cruelty; even more abominable is the fact that they foment stupidity. To fight against those sad monotonies is one of the many duties of writers." --jorge luis borges
i guess i should've been bobbing when i was weaving.. oh well. strike three for me. i know when to call it done.
